The Stories Behind the Songs: Inside Sunseeker’s Inaugural Songwriter Series

The Stories Behind the Songs: Inside Sunseeker’s Inaugural Songwriter Series
You’ve probably heard the songs.
Maybe you’ve sung along to them in the car, heard them on the radio, or added them to a playlist without ever thinking about who wrote the words that stayed with you.
This Labor Day weekend, Sunseeker Resort Florida Gulf Coast is giving guests the opportunity to hear those stories directly from the songwriters who brought them to life.
On September 5 and 6, the inaugural Sunseeker Songwriter Series, presented by BMI, comes to Estuary’s Edge Event Space, bringing five accomplished Nashville songwriters together for two intimate evenings of live music, storytelling and the stories behind some of today’s most recognizable songs.
This isn’t a traditional concert experience. It’s an opportunity to get closer to the music, meet the people behind it, and hear the stories, inspiration and moments that shaped the songs themselves.
You’ve Heard the Songs. Now Hear the Stories.
There is something special about hearing a songwriter perform a song they wrote themselves.
Without the elaborate production of a traditional concert, the focus shifts to the words, the melody and the story behind them. Songwriters can share where an idea came from, what inspired a lyric, or what it was like to hear an artist bring their song to life for the first time.
That intimate connection is what makes a songwriter round so unique.
And with a lineup spanning country, rock and pop influences, the Sunseeker Songwriter Series brings together writers whose work has been recorded by some of the biggest names in music.
Meet the Songwriters
Saturday, September 5
Anthony Smith
A celebrated Nashville songwriter and performer, Anthony Smith has written more than 250 songs recorded or performed by some of country music’s biggest artists, including George Strait, Tim McGraw, Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert and Kenny Chesney. His own debut album produced three Billboard Top 40 singles, while his songwriting career has earned recognition from MusicRow, BMI, ASCAP and NSAI.
Shane Minor
A Nashville-based songwriter, producer and performer, Shane Minor has spent nearly three decades crafting songs for artists including Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Diamond Rio and BlackHawk. With multiple No. 1 songs and years of experience in Nashville, Minor brings a wealth of stories and insight into the creative process behind the music.
Together, Smith and Minor will kick off the inaugural Songwriter Series on Saturday evening with an intimate performance that puts the songwriters and their stories at center stage.
Sunday, September 6
Ben Burgess
The Texas-born songwriter is perhaps best known for co-writing Morgan Wallen’s “Whiskey Glasses,” but his catalog extends well beyond one hit. Burgess has written for artists including HARDY, ERNEST, Koe Wetzel, Jessie Murph, Shaboozey and others. Now, based in Nashville, he brings his Texas roots, storytelling style and years of experience to the Songwriter Series stage.
Marti Frederiksen
Marti Frederiksen’s career spans decades and genres, from his work with Aerosmith and Def Leppard to songwriting and production with artists including Faith Hill, Sheryl Crow, Pink, Eminem, Carrie Underwood and Daughtry. An award-winning songwriter and producer, Frederiksen brings a unique perspective shaped by a career that crosses country, rock and pop.
Summer Overstreet
A Nashville native and daughter of Songwriters Hall of Fame songwriter Paul Overstreet, Summer Overstreet has built a songwriting career of her own. Her work has been recorded by artists including Tucker Wetmore, Hudson Westbrook, Max McNown, Graham Barham, Tyler Halverson and Jake Owen. In 2025, she celebrated her first No. 1 as a co-writer on Tucker Wetmore’s “3, 2, 1.”
Sunday brings three distinct voices and perspectives together for the second night of the series, creating a completely different experience from Saturday.
An Intimate Evening of Music at Estuary’s Edge
The setting is part of what makes the experience different.
At Estuary’s Edge Event Space, the Songwriter Series creates an intimate environment where guests can focus on the performers, the stories and the music.
Each ticket includes a light pre-show reception and one complimentary cocktail, with a cash bar also available for purchase throughout the evening.
Rather than simply watching a performance from a distance, guests have the opportunity to experience the music in a setting designed around the people who created it.
It is the kind of evening that reminds you there is often a story behind the song you know by heart.

The Songwriter Series may be the centerpiece, but the music doesn’t stop when the show ends.
